“FSU London Ladies”: Hannah Crossman

“FSU London Ladies” presents its lady of the week, Hannah Crossman!

Florida State University has an amazing international program, and according to their site, “Florida State is among the nation’s elite for study abroad totals.” The London program in particular has much to offer, and the students that make up the program are intelligent, unique, and driven. So it’s my pleasure to feature these lovely FSU London ladies!

Hannah is currently enrolled in the First Year Abroad program. “The First Year Abroad (FYA) program allows students to complete the first twelve months of their Florida State careers studying abroad with International Programs. Students can choose to spend their first year at any of our study centers: London, England; Florence, Italy; Panama City, Republic of Panama; Valencia, Spain. Students can opt to change their location for the summer term and spend it at another study center, though visa restrictions apply for some locations.” An added bonus: FYA students who are in good judicial standing qualify for out of state tuition waivers allowing students to pay in-state tuition rates for the remainder of their first undergraduate degree at Florida State in Tallahassee.

Hannah is a freshman at Florida State who decided to study abroad when she figured out no school in her home state of Georgia offered her major of Fashion Merchandising and Product Development. She has a lot of family in Tallahassee, and when she toured the campus she fell in love with it, so Florida State was an easy choice to make. Her hobbies include racing and jumping horses, taking road trips, and taking weekly Chickfila field trips. Read her interview below!

Q: What is your favorite color?

HC: It would have to be black. I’ve gone through the pink and purple and sea-foam green stage, but I just decided to end up on black. It’s basically the only color I wear and I just like it for some reason. (pink is still cool and stuff though)

Q: Do you have a favorite number?

HC: Uhh no…I mean I’ve always been number six on just about every school roster, sport, and a lot of other stuff but that kind of just happened. For a while I told people it was infinity but I realized that was a really stupid answer and I needed to reassess my decisions.

Q: What’s your favorite food and why?

HC: Oh gosh. I like just about all foods. My favorite would probably be any kind of food you can eat with your hands (pizza, burgers, wings, burritos, etc.) so I thrive at skating rinks and Chuck E. Cheese. Really, the only things I won’t eat are fish, asparagus, and anything with mustard on it.

Q: Would you rather be stranded alone on an island, or with someone you hate?

HC: 100% with someone I hate. I don’t do well when I’m alone for long periods of time, so I guess it would be better to have somebody to talk to, even if they sucked. (And I guess if all else fails I’ll have somebody to throw coconuts at).

Q: What’s your favorite article of clothing?

HC: Oh man, I don’t think I have just one. I would probably say my t-shirt collection (I have at least 70) just because they’ve never failed me. If it was socially acceptable I would wear a big t-shirt all day every day.

Q: What do you want to be when you grow up?

HC: AN ASTRONAUT. Just kidding. I want to have a career in fashion, I just don’t know what it is yet. Right now, I would love to work for a company like Marchesa or Elie Saab designing evening wear and red carpet looks, but lately I’ve been considering doing outdoors-wear instead. I just don’t belong in a big city, and I’m sure a career in evening wear would take me to one. If I could live in a place like Colorado or Tennessee and work in fashion, that would be perfect.

Q: Would you rather end hunger or hate?

A: Definitely hate. I feel like if all the hate in the world disappeared, and people thought and cared for others as much as they do themselves, the end to hunger would fall into place.

Q: Who is your role model?

HC: I’m going to be super basic with this one and say my mom (who I’m never going to let see this because she’ll cry and hang it up on the fridge) because she’s always made the biggest sacrifices for my sister and I, and always put our needs before hers, even when we were hooligan teenagers and didn’t deserve it. She’s taught me to take time to help people that haven’t been as fortunate in life, and to always put others before myself. I hope to not only be the mom she is, but the person she is one day.

Q: Would you rather forget who you are, or who everyone else is?

HC: I would probably rather forget who I am. It would be awful, but I feel like it would be interesting to meet all the people I care about again for the first time. (And I would hate to forget who all the people around me were, because knowing my friends they would convince me they were secret agents or spider-man or something)

Q: Who is your celebrity crush?

HC: Hahaha well for years (and I really mean years), I had the biggest crush on Tim Tebow just because I thought he was hot and I admired how devoted he was to his religion. In the past few months I’ve had this serious Hozier obsession, and I would have to say that’s definitely my celebrity crush now. I love his music and how he writes his own lyrics, and he pretty much has the voice of an angel (and a rockin’ man-bun)

Q: What’s your favorite place in the world?

HC: There’s this mountain in my town and a few nights a week I’ll walk or drive up it and watch the sunset. I have this weird obsession with the sky, and there’s a spot up on the mountain that overlooks the whole city, all the way to Atlanta, and I like to go up there and just listen to music and relax in an eno, or just hike up there if it’s nice out.

Q: Would you rather always get first dibs or the last laugh?

HC: Definitely the last laugh. Let’s be real, nobody takes dibs seriously. I would want to have the last laugh because I’m usually embarrassing myself, so it would be nice to be on the other end, haha.
