The Clothes You Need In Your Fall Wardrobe

By Kristen Peuvion on September 29, 2014

One of my favorite things about fall is the impending cold weather. It’s the time of year when it’s not hot, but not cold either. There is just the perfect, slight crisp chill in the air.

It’s the perfect weather for carving pumpkins, sipping hot drinks from Starbucks, and walking through all of the crunchy leaves! Who doesn’t love all of that?

But, just when you thought the fall couldn’t get any better, the cooler weather also means one more amazing thing: fall outerwear. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love slipping on a chunky sweater, warm jacket or new pair of boots come October.

No matter how much you love summer and the sunshine and warm weather that comes with it, you cannot deny the joy you feel the first time you get to wear all of your cute and cozy fall outerwear.

So with October quickly approaching, it’s time to put away all of your sundresses, shorts and flip flops and trade them in for some fabulous, fresh fall outerwear. Here are some things to keep on your radar for your fall 2014 outerwear wardrobe.

The Versatile Leather Jacket

A leather jacket is something that is always going to be in style no matter what. Right now, leather jackets are having a moment, so you’ll be able to find them in virtually any design, style, color and price you’re looking for. This is nice, but can also be daunting if you’re not entirely sure what you’re looking for.

The most popular style in the recent months is a moto style jacket. If you’re not sure what that means, it’s the ones with the flaps starting about halfway up the jacket. This is a great style because it can be worn not only dressed up for a night out with your girlfriends, but also on any casual day.

Versatility should be your main priority when it comes to a leather jacket because they tend to be a bit pricey. Choosing one that you can wear with just about any outfit is the best option for this year’s fall wardrobe.

The Every Day Anorak Jacket

Even though a leather jacket can get you through most of your colder weather needs, sometimes you just might not feel like wearing so much sassiness. For the days when your leather jacket just seems like a bit much and you want something more low key, an anorak jacket is the perfect option.

More often than not, anorak jackets are neutral colors like army green, khaki, navy and black, which is great for an everyday jacket because it will go with absolutely anything.

What also makes an anorak jacket perfect for the everyday is the style. It’s usually a longer coat, unlike a leather jacket, and the fit is very loose. However it does typically have a drawstring cinch around the waist for when you feel like giving your body a bit more shape.

Overall, the casual and comfy style of an anorak jacket is great for any beautiful fall day.

A Cute Pair of Booties

The great thing about fall is that there is still no snow on the ground, so you won’t need to worry about wearing heavy duty boots every time you go outside. That means it’s the perfect time to wear all of your cutest footwear before the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Boots are an obvious choice for the fall and this fall is no different. Instead of your typical knee-high boots though, opt for a shorter pair. It seems that the length of boots in the past year has been getting smaller and smaller. Thigh-high boots were popular for a time, then knee-highs, then combat boots and now it seems like the shrinking trend is continuing.

This fall’s hottest footwear trend is booties. They look super chic with skintight skinny jeans, or if you’re going for a girlier look, try them with a pair of tights and a fall dress. No matter how you wear them, you’ll be glad you got them for fall 2014.

A Chunky Cable Knit Sweater

A chunky cable knit sweater should be a staple in your wardrobe this fall. Actually, scratch that–it should be a staple in your wardrobe every fall.

A chunky cable knit sweater is a classic piece you should always have in your wardrobe: bonus points if it’s slightly over-sized. It will keep you warm and it’s also so comfortable and easy to throw on that it gives your look an effortless chic vibe.

Wear it by itself or put it on over your favorite button-down or flannel; either way it’s the perfect addition to your fall wardrobe.

Let’s celebrate all of the great things that come with the arrival of fall! Even though it does mean temperatures are getting colder, don’t mourn the end of summer.

Instead, use this cooler weather to add chic outerwear to your fall wardrobe and celebrate this fall in style.
